Regina Opera's 44th ANNIVERSARY
Sunday, April 6, at 3:00pm

Join us for an afternoon of great music as Regina Opera celebrates its 44th Anniversary.
Featured will be Regina Opera soloists: Victoria Tralongo and Camille Gifford, sopranos; Ben Sloman, tenor; Julian Whitley, baritone; Richard Paratley, flutist; and Victoria Ulanovskaya, pianist. Selections will include a duet from Tosca, arias from Faust, The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute; songs from Kiss Me Kate, My Fair Lady, Carousel, and some of your favorite Cole Porter songs, plus Italian and Neapolitan songs.

Sami Author to Speak

The Scandinavian East Coast Museum is thrilled to have Sami author, Ellen Marie Jensen enlightening us through her writing, about the fascinating, but often misunderstood Sami culture. Her newest book, We Stopped Forgetting, Stories from Sámi Americans, focuses on Americans with a Scandinavian identity that find out that they have Sámi ethnicity as well. Ellen will also talk about her other English language titles, Sámi Reindeer Herders in Alaska, and An Account of the Sámi. Books available for sale. The cost is $10 for the lecture and includes coffee and dessert. The Danish Athletic Club will open at 5:00 pm, if you wish to have dinner before the author speaks. Reservations requested

VIKING FEST 2014
Saturday, May 17th from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Bliss/Owl's Head Park, 68th Street & Narrows Avenue Bay Ridge, Brooklyn
Presented by the Scandinavian East Coast Museum, the "Viking Village" begins from 10:00 am - noon, featuring the Norseman, half-size replica Viking ship and crew, and the re-enactment organizations: the Society for Creative Anachronism and Historic Arms. *Please note that these groups will be displaying and exhibiting during the entire event.
Featured guests from Norway include: the Sandnes Trekkspill Orkester - accordion band and Sandnes Folkedanslag - Folk Dancers from the town of Sandnes. Our other Norwegian guests are musicians from Maya's School of Performing Arts playing traditional music on traditional instruments - Eli Storbekken: song and sallow flute/ Seljefløyte-Maya Østhassel on lyre/harp; Mary Barthelemy on fiddle/ Harlingfele, flutes and ram's horn; Magnar Storbækken on ram's horn" /"goat horn and Lur.
A note of interest, one of Magnar's horns (a real "ram's horn" /"goat horn"!) is played on the soundtrack to the Disney film FROZEN
Of course we will have our popular "Touched By the Vikings" performances featuring music and dance from cultures that have a connection to the Vikings. We hope to have: Clann Eirann Pipers, The Donny Golden School of Step Dance and YDIR (Young Dancers in Repertory), as well as others. Performance schedule will be available in mid-April. We will also have rides, Norwegian food and crafters.
